Signs your water heater needs attention
No hot water, or hot water that runs out faster than it used to, is the most obvious sign. Water temperature that swings instead of holding steady is another. Popping or rumbling noises from the tank often point to sediment buildup, and rust-colored water or any visible leak around the base of the unit is worth a call on its own.
Sediment buildup is worth calling out specifically for well-water homes: minerals in untreated well water settle at the bottom of a tank water heater over time, which can cause noise, reduce efficiency, and shorten the unit's life. It's one more reason a water test is worth doing if you haven't had one.
Why we check the well system at the same time
On well water, a water heater installation often turns up a pressure tank or water quality issue that was there all along. Sediment buildup, a struggling pressure switch, or hard water shortening the heater's life are all common finds. We check both while we're on site, so you're not solving half the problem.
